The Agapanthus

The farm has been planted with a spectacular variety of Agapanthus collected over the past ten years. This collection can all be seen flowering in the summer months. Their availability for sale, however, depends on their having reached an acceptable degree of maturity for their harvest.

Standard Praecox Orientalis

Description
Best known of species. Wide arching leaves up to 60cm (24”) long. Flowers grow to approximate height of 1 metre (3ft). These plants will survive with little water and will multiply each year. Prefer full sunlight but will grow in shade although this will limit extent and size of flowers.

Lofty Blue Praecox Orientalis

Description
Similar to standard plants but up to 1.7 meters high with large flowers on tall stems.

Pioneer Praecox Orientalis

Description
Similar to standard plants but these were obtained from a single clump over 75 years of age. It has been singled out because of its rigorous growth and wonderful large dense flowers.

Dutch Blue Giant

Description
A tall plant with huge flower head. Has distinctive wide, pale green leaves. Its special feature is it's late flowering in Autumn, when other agapanthus have finished their cycle.

Double Delight

Description
Unusual refined low growing plant with prolific double petaled flowers. The dark green leaves are wider than those of the miniature species. Likes semi shade.

Miniature

Description
Very fine in both foliage and flowers. Prolific in growth. Particularly drought resistant. The delicate flowers are numerous and can appear during spring and summer.

Semi Dwarf Standard

Description
Green leaves approximately half the width of the ‘standard' plants. Grows to approximately twice the height of the ‘dwarf' plants with attractive flowers. Prolific growers and form attractive clumps.

Semi Dwarf Albo Roseus Compacta

Description
A so called ‘pink' species. White flowers with strong infusion of claret colouring giving a striking pink effect.
The flowers are remarkable for their tendency to all face upwards.
Needs full sun.
Are especially suitable for indoor cut flowers where they are long lasting and tend to develop to a deeper pink as they age.

Description
Similar to ‘Compacta' in all aspects except they are taller and have larger flower heads.

Guilfoyle (Our Best)

Description
Paler green leaves than standard plants. Prolific grower. One plant had eleven blooms in its second year of flowering. Flowers up to 150cm high. This is in our opinion the 'Prince' of Agapanthus with its large rounded head and deep purple colour (navy).

Purple Cloud

A New Zealand raised Agapanthus. It makes 180cm tall stems topped by large heads of inky blue flowers that hang in an attractive form. The foliage tends to greyish green.

Perpetual Peace

A beautiful dwarf white plant. It has the distinct advantage of flowering for approximately 6 months of the year.

The nursery offers a variety of specialised potted plants. These include Pencil Pines Pencil Pines, Standar Conifers, Arum Lilies, Border Hedgings and a selection of native and cottage plants. Mature trees are also available.

Pencil Pines (Conifers)
Type A 'Glauca'.
An improved form of this well known, highly useful Italian Cypress. Makes an excellent tall narrow specimen.
Suitable for tub culture.

Christina Gray and her architect father, Ernest, have been providing garden planning and plant selection advice for over 10 years. This service is carried out on an hourly basis.

An added attraction of this work is the availabliity of many plants at costs well below normal retail charges.

After 3 years of development we have available an unusual design of Dovecote. Apart from it's attractive appearance, this unit is completely weatherproof and unlinke timber Dovecotes requires no maintenance. It is fabricated from a combination of resin and natural sands. A marvellous present for the other half!
